SILK GOWN
This body of work tells a story. Hidden behind the gown are stories of growth, change, and the all-encompassing feelings that come with the fragility of life. It tells a story from one line to the next. In the forefront is a silk gown. This gown is sheer against the light, which embodies vulnerability through transparency. It also represents letting in the light on each moment of life. The high slit creates fluid movement in the fabric. The material is soft, which represents staying soft in the midst of hard trials. The movement and fluidity in the gown represent moving through each of life’s moments with fluidity and grace, sifting through what has value and what does not.
Life is passing by in an instant and this piece gives a moment to sit in stillness and see the beauty all around. There is beauty in the mundane. There is beauty in a simple gown surrounded by nature. While this body of work represents my journey through life and the place I call home, it also invites the viewer to become part of the work as well, defining how they see the work. Each person may feel something different when looking at this piece. While one might see it as an evolution of fashion and gender through time, another may see it as a reflection of one’s own journey. This is my design, inspired by the many stories that have come before me. I invite you to see this work of art through your own eyes.
SS 2021 COLLECTION
A nature lens shaped the ideas for Fendig Designs Spring Summer 2021 Collection: an awareness of the world around us which we inhabit, a craving for lightness and simplicity, and an overwhelming desire for life to feel full and magical again. Every collection is an outpouring, in some way or another, of what we are feeling. Spring/Summer is a feeling of joy and movement. It is about taking each moment captive and holding on to the good things. This past year represents what it means to keep going and to keep pushing. Whether that be pushing for change, or just pushing to keep on moving each and every day. I invite you to immerse yourself in this collection. Each piece is different in structure, some with movement and transparency, and some with structure. Enjoy this collection for all that it is and its representation of life: Soft, bright, fun, unique, and imperfect in the most beautiful ways.
*** Instead of focusing on a cohesive color theme, I decided to create a collection using only scraps of fabric from old textile projects. Due to this, color choice was limited and each piece is one-of-a-kind. ***
